gstreamer-plugins-mp3
install the gstreamer-plugins-mp3 package:
su --login -c 'yum install gstreamer-plugins-mp3'
This will pull some neccesary deps, like the lame mp3 encoder itself. Note that this package will also enable mp3 decoding, IE playback, in all applications using gstreamer. This includes the default music player rhythmbox and the KDE player amarok.
Now, let's add the configuration needed for sound-juicer to rip to mp3.
Add encoder profiles
I will be adding two different sets of encoder settings. One for regular, high quality mp3-files and one with special settings for portable devices with limited space. These settings are based on recommendations from hydrogenaudio wiki (http://wiki.hydrogenaudio.org/index.php?title=LAME) and will be using variable bitrates with variable bitrate preset 2 (known as V2) for high quality and preset 6 (V6) for portable.
Start by opening gnome-audio-profiles-properties
gnome-audio-profiles-properties
In gnome-audio-pofiles-properrties, press "New" and enter a name like "Mp3 - High Quality"
Select the new profile in the list, and press "Edit". Now enter the following (see attached screenshot)
Profile Name: Mp3 - High Quality
Profile Describtion: High Quality Mp3 files using LAME
Gstreamer pipeline: audio/x-raw-int,rate=44100,channels=2 ! lame name=enc vbr=4 vbr-quality=2
File Extension: mp3
Check the "Active?" checkbox and press "OK"
