Kan ikke starte KDE på vanlig måte

etter at jeg gjorde en sikkerhetsoppdatering. Jeg skjønner ikke hva som har skjedd, og kommer bare til innlogging i kommandolinje. Runlevel 5 kommer jeg ikke inn på med min vanlige profil, men når jeg logger meg inn som root og skriver startx i kommandolinjen, så får jeg opp skrivebordet, men det er noe som er galt. Skjermen oppdateres sent, og jeg får ikke logget meg inn som vanlig bruker.

Er det noen som har et råd eller to?

Du har ikke lagt inn Factory repo (som har 11.2 inne) og fått en uønsket oppgradering vel? OpenSuse har ICEwm som sekundært skrivebord - har du forsøkt å logge inn med dette? (Dersom du har kommet deg til innloggingsvinduet?)

Et annet alternativ er dersom du har oppdatert kernel og ikke grafikkdriverne har fulgt med i oppdateringen... (f.eks. selvkompilert grafikkdriver fra Nvida).

har du sjekket om det stod noe i loggen(e) som kunne hentyde til problemet ditt? Legg gjerne ut resultat fra dmesg og evt. logger som har med X å gjøre.

Vet du hva som ble oppdatert?

Om det var en kernel oppdatering er det ikke uvanlig at en får trøbbel med grafikkdrivere fra nVidia eller ATi. Om du bruker sånt, kan det være grafikkdriverene må installeres på nytt/oppdateres til den nye kernel versjonen.

Tre forslag:

A: Sjekk at grafikkdriver osv er ok.

Åpne terminal:

logg inn som root og kjør:

Foreta omstart.

B: KDE 4.2 er factory - en oppdatering KAN ha gått galt.
- Når du starter opp - velg IceWM istedet for KDE (som er default) og logg inn
- Start yast og foreta en oppdatering

Logg ut og start med KDE

C: Fjern KDE4 katalogen i home.
- Gå inn med IceWM
- Åpne Dolphin og bruk "vis skjulte filer"
- gå til /home/brukernavn/
- Endre navn på katalogen /home/brukernavn/.kde4 til /home/brukernavn/Xkde4
- Ta en omstart og logg inn med KDE 4.

Mange takk for tips og råd! Jeg valgte å oppgradere, fra scratch. Svaret ditt kom akkurat da jeg hadde startet oppgraderingen. Uansett, så vet jeg nå hvilke muligheter jeg har for å komme meg ut av en slik knipe neste gang. Det ser ut som om det er en del mikk med OpenSUSE. Det er jo ikke noe som er helt ferdig hos dem, men det ser alltid jævlig bra ut.

Jeg har av og til hatt litt mikkmakk med OpenSuse, men stort sett kan jeg bare skylde på meg selv. KDE ligger jo i Factory - så det ligger igrunn i navnet at det KAN medføre risiko. Dersom man holder seg til hva de leverte - med KDE 4.1.3 (nå 4.1.4) - og nøyer seg med noen få nødvendigheter fra andre repo som pacman osv, så tror jeg ikke at det er noen større problemer med OpenSuse.

Nå er jo KDE 4.2 en god grunn til å velge OpenSuse, men dersom du ser på f.eks Ubuntu - så holder de seg strikt til én versjon av Gnome pr release slik de gjør med det meste av pakker. Bryter man ut av det mønsteret KAN det få konsekvenser.

Et problem med KDE 4.2 når det ikke er en del av installasjonen ser ut til å være noen merkverdigheter mht tap av innstillinger og plasmoid/paneler som ikke lar seg fjerne. Har ikke opplevd det samme når jeg har holdt meg innenfor den offisielle varianten av KDE 4.1.x. Slike ting gjør at man kanskje ikke bør gå igang med KDE 4.2 før det er default i en distro. Misforstå meg rett - jeg har ikke motforestillinger mot KDE 4.2 - langt ifra, men det er litt avhengig av hva brukere ønsker å oppnå . Og ikke minst hvor stabilt man vil ha det og hvor tolerant man er overfor feil.

De tre alternativene jeg listet burde hjelpe deg om du skulle komme ut for noe lignende senere.
